Discover Our Age-Friendly Community in Monmouth!

Did you know Monmouth is part of a global movement dedicated to helping people of all ages live active, healthy, and connected lives? On January 14, 2024, Monmouth proudly joined the AARP Age-Friendly Network, partnering with the UMaine Center on Aging to help build a community where everyone can thrive.

As part of Maine’s statewide Age-Friendly initiative—recognized worldwide for creating inclusive, livable communities—Age-Friendly Monmouth is focused on enhancing everyday life for residents through meaningful programs, partnerships, and volunteer-driven efforts. From improving transportation and communication to expanding social opportunities, health resources, and accessible community spaces, the work truly touches all aspects of living well.

Led by Chair Darlene Sanborn and powered by a dedicated team of 20+ volunteers, Age-Friendly Monmouth offers a variety of engaging and helpful programs, including:
  • A Medical Equipment Closet
  • A welcoming bi-weekly walking group
  • Monthly lunch meetups to stay connected
  • Educational opportunities like Scam & Fraud Prevention, Senior Driver Safety, Balance Classes, and more
By working together with local organizations, town leadership, and community members, Age-Friendly Monmouth continues to build a vibrant action plan that reflects what matters most—keeping residents connected, independent, and engaged at every stage of life.
